On day 18 of our SAP integrated B2B Sellside eCommerce implementation project for Blount, we presented the “ready for production” website to two Distributor organizations. I’ve been in this business for a long time, but that doesn’t stop the adrenaline from pumping when we get in front of real customers. I just love it!
I logged 21 comments made in the hour long Focus Group. Of those, one was a bug in how we sorted columns in a report (already fixed) and 4 were feature requests that, once again, made an awful lot of sense to me. The feature requests really highlighted the fact that when real users see the real application running real scenarios using real data they come up with really good ideas. In this case, they pointed out that on a daily basis they would love to see a “backlog report” and an “open order report”. While both of those reports are easily created within our application, it makes an awful lot of sense to make it easier to get at…especially if they are going to be used daily. So we’ll see what we can do.
The rest were questions and comments that should probably find their way into a FAQ that Blount puts together for their fullscale rollout which starts in a few weeks.
One of factors that contributed to the success of this Focus Group was the level of testing that Blount did in the week leading up to the event. Here is a screenshot of what Google Analytics tells us about their testing effort. Three things to point out.
- 21 users were created and visited the site over 200 times in the two weeks that the QA site was available to Blount. Most of it in the second week when the site was fairly stable.
- Over 61% of the visits to the site generated the attainment of a goal…check order status or download a document. That’s over 180 goals (test cases) attained.
- If this was a production site, and it was customers attaining these goals, that would translate into close to $1K of savings in the course of two weeks. My bet is that those numbers will at least double when we really go into production. The good news, is that thanks to Google, we have a way to easily measure the value that the website is producing.
We’re now dotting the “i’s” and crossing the “t’s”. A production version of Blount’s SAP Integrated B2B sellside eCommerce website will be published on Wednesday and the pilot customers will be invited in on Friday.
In less than 4 weeks we would have gone from project kickoff to beta testing in production!
