Cycling Sports Group launches new Magento site
that features real-time SAP integration

 

Cycling Sports Group (CSG), a division of Dorel Industries, represents 5 different bicycle brands and supports more than 5000 Independent Bicycle Dealers in the US, Europe and Japan.

The CSG portfolio includes some of the most recognizable bicycle brands in the world: Cannondale, GT, Mongoose, Schwinn and SUGOi.

Even though CSG had an existing b2b website, most of the company’s orders were handled off-line.

The problems

  • CSG was on a legacy ERP system that was separated from the rest of the company, which was already on SAP
  • Because of the migration to SAP,  Cannondale was about to lose its legacy b2b web portal
  • 90% of orders were still placed and managed via phone calls or emails. This process created a huge resource drain on CSG’s Account Managers and Dealer Service Team.
  • The existing b2b website lacked real-time inventory data and as a result customers didn’t trust it
  • The small number of online orders CSG received through the old site were handled via FTP and batched once and hour, leading to data inconsistencies and confusion

The decision

CSG was looking for a best-in-class, open source ecommerce platform with catalog management. So they chose Magento. They also wanted a web-based, self-service order management portal for their dealers.

“We were on a path to go live with a new SAP implementation and a new Magento catalog at the same time.  And we wanted the two things to be connected with real-time data.  We needed help.  So, we did a Google search on SAP + Magento and that led us to b2b2dot0.”

This project was the perfect storm of moving parts and multiple players including:

  • A huge SAP migration (away from an existing legacy ERP system)
  • An outsourced SAP migration team
  • A new b2b ecommerce site, built with Magento
  • An outsourced Magento development team
  • An outsourced graphic design agency

The user interface design

Because b2b2dot0 uses a library of web service calls to facilitate communication between Magento and SAP,  CSG’S design team was completely free to customize the Magento interface to suit their needs.

In fact, b2b2dot0 helped CSG customize a Magneto dashboard for logged-in users that features real-time SAP data on:

  • Open Orders
  • Open Invoices
  • Inventory alerts
  • Recently shipped orders

In less than six months, CSG launched a new SAP installation, implemented radical operational changes and launched a customized b2b ecommerce site.

CSG introduced the new site to different groups in stages.  The company’s account managers were part of the first group, then the site was opened to 800 Cannondale dealers in North America.

In the first 4 weeks, CGS booked over $6 million dollars worth of business through the new b2b site without a single problem.
